Since 1998 an absolute ranking is computed out of the individual scores and taking into account
the results of the last World or European Field Championships. Since 1998 and till 2002 the criteria
was based on dividing the individual score by the average of the top 5 results for that division in
the last WFC or EFC. This was great as offered the possibility to get an absolute winner of the event;
but among the 5 top scores there are the genius of archery, those who are capable of doing an score
you and me will never achieve! and somehow this distorted the results (just think about the top Swedish
barebows!) So in 2004 the average taken was instead out of the 5 lowest scores who went
into the eliminatory round in Vagney. The idea behind is that the averages obtained in this way
are more ballanced when comparing the different divisions.
